Sign Personalization Tips and Punctuation Guidelines

Design Suggestions:
When personalizing your sign, remember that LESS IS MORE. The MORE you change the sign, the LESS it will look like the original you see pictured. We strongly suggest you not try to cram to much text where personalization is allow. The result will be a busy sign that will not have the same effect and the sign with brief, concise, to the point text.

Grammar
You would not believe some of the personalization requests we receive. Slang and nicknames are often submitted so for that reason, WE DO NOT ASSUME that the grammar and punctuation you submit in your personalization is incorrect. All personalization submitted will be produced as you provide it to us, so please make sure to proof your personalization.

Punctuation
We often receive questions on where to place the apostrophe on names that end with the letter "S". The specific rule according to our resident grammar teacher is as follows:

If the name applies to an individual:

  • If the name does not end with the letter S then you should use apostrophe S such as Stack's 19th Hole. In Teacher Speak: If a singular noun that does not end in S, then use 'S.

  • If the name ends with the letter S then you may use either apostrophe S such as Davis's Irish Pub or just the apostrophe such as Davis' Irish Pub. In teacher speak, to form the possessive of a singular proper noun ending in S, you may add apostrophe S OR add only an apostrophe.

  • If the name applies to a group of people:
  • If the name does not end with the letter S then you should use apostrophe S such as Kennedy's Neighborhood Pub. In Teacher Speak: If a plural noun does not end with an S, form the possessive by using an apostrophe before an S.

  • If the name ends with the letter S, you just add the apostrophe at the end.  For example: The Bigos' Neighborhood Pub. In Teacher Speak: If a plural noun ends in S, add an apostrophe after the S.

  • If you have any further questions regarding punctuation, we found a great source for punctuation rules here.
